Dear Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and Principal:
Does more money, annual and per computer costs, give you improved test scores? “It ( A+LS) has made such a difference in so many of our student’s lives. The program is so user friendly and allows students the opportunity to receive individualized instruction. This is such and advantage to our students. This year we have added Reading Plus to help reading proficiency in all subject areas,” said Mr. Harold Smith, Principal Parkland High School. 04-24-01. See OE article, http://www.good schools.gwu.edu/csrl/ss/story9.html. Parkland High School has been named one of the two most improved schools in the Nation. A+LS replaced a program at Parkand that was costing the school $20,000 annually. They use A+LS and Reading Plus extensively. Ask Mr. Smith. His email address is at the end of the above report. “West Pender Middle School has been recognized as an Exemplary Growth school for five years and can include School of Distinction recognition to its laurels. Much of this growth in student achievement can be attributed to the use of technology to provide “prescriptive remediation” for students who are working at grade level while providing both grade level work and enrichment for all students... We made a commitment to the use of technology during the school day, for after-school tutoring, and for summer remediation over 5 years ago. The purchase of Reading Plus software from your company gave us our first tool for providing specific help in improving the ability of students to read fluently and in increasing comprehension. A year later we added A+LS to provide individualized content instruction that is correlated to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for all students. This year we were again recognized for “Closing the Gap” between demographic groups in achievement. Indeed, we find that the gap closes further each year so that it often becomes statistically insignificant in grade 8. I encourage schools who are interested in calling us or visiting us to arrange to do so.” Mr. H. Van Blake, Principal. (910)-283-5626.
“Yancey School is a “school of progress...This makes five years in a row that Yancey has been recognized by the state…I give credit for much of our steady climb of success to your support and the excellent products used at L. B. Yancey- A+LS, Reading Plus and Learning Letter Sounds. Our school has become the technology model for all Vance County Schools due to our continuous success rate...In 1997 we were a low performing school with 39% of students on grade level on End of Grade Tests. Beginning in 1997-1998 we began to systematically use your products, and the results speak for themselves. In 2002 we were 73.7% at grade level.” Mr. Winston Kerley, Principal, L. B. Yancey Elementary School. 09-18-02, (252)-438-8336.
“I am happy to report that Zeb Vance Elementary School is the first school in our four county area to have achieved the “School of Excellence” recognition. (90% of students at or above grade level). Without the learning software, A+LS, Reading Plus, and Learning Letter Sounds, we could not have achieved these results. These programs allow us to give the specialized attention to students that we would otherwise not have the time or enough personnel to meet their needs. The efficiency of the management part of the programs allows teachers to target the individual educational needs of each child so each child can be successful.” Mr. David Hawks, Principal Zeb Vance Elementary School. 11-04-02, (252)-438-8492.
Because of increased scores in schools that have the above programs, the NC House Education Committee arranged for a presentation to the entire committee. What did they see? Regardless of how good your schools are, they can be better! Example: Can you now evaluate, compare your students to national norms, teach and measure progress in silent fluency at all levels? We will demonstrate how.
“I have written and had funded over fifteen million dollars in grants, and I evaluate the programs. Your software is the one providing growth in the schools. Is it alright with you to write your software into more projects?” Dr. Alan Wark, Center for Technology, Education & Assessment. (336)-877-3869, grants@cteagrants.com.
Did you know your teachers can click on any number of VA or NC skills ( A+nyWhere) with the same number and description as in your standards? The computer will pretest (175,000 test questions) the skill/s and if needed select the correct lessons (8,000 lessons). Lessons will tutor, apply (113,00 exercises), test, and keep records (183 reports). Check the correlations on tarmaced.com. (Right mouse click and download the correlations in Excel)
“Every superintendent needs this! Can I sell it when I retire?” School Superintendent, 10-28-02. We have provided workshops at all levels, including education professors, on “Integrating Software into the Instructional Program.” All the tools and technical support needed can be included in your staff development plans as allowed in most grants.
